Embrace light’s magic in a hands-on workshop dedicated to the camera-less art of cyanotype printing. Cyanotypes are contact prints on light-sensitive paper and are a process that bridges photography and printmaking. In 3 hours, attendees will learn how to coat paper with photosensitive mixes, tap into their newfound blue period, and make finished prints from found objects + more.

what you'll create:

Print vibrantly blue cyanotypes to start soaking up the rays of some summer sunlight. Our workshop will explore the history and chemistry of cyanotype printing and provide dedicated time to making several prints. Learn exposure times, toning, and printing with a UV light. For photograms, students can bring their own found objects or use the various instructor-provided materials. Photographs can be converted into transparencies upon request, in advance of the course.

  • Safe + effective techniques to coat paper with light-sensitive chemistry

  • Art of chemistry, coating surfaces, development times + printing with UV

  • Techniques for composition, play, + experimentation

  • How to troubleshoot, or embrace, common hiccups (uneven exposure + chemistry, and more)
